Climate Change Education (CCE) is a fundamental tool that children and young people will need as they are forced to navigate the uncertain effects of climate change and deal with the ‘1000 year clean up’ left by industrial civilisations led by their parents and their parents before them. Positioned as future leaders, children and young people are being expected, to overcome the legacies of environmental action brought forward by these previous generations. But are we giving children all of the responsibility of fixing this but none of the knowledge nor power needed to do it? In this presentation I will map how far climate change education has come, the epistemic injustices that we are committing along the way and how I imagine a more meaningful conceptualisation moving forward.
